  1. On the subject of number three…during the Russo-Japanese war just over a hundred years ago, they ran the train line across the frozen lake in winter to get soldiers and materiel out to the front in Siberia faster!

    • That is cool! One thing #3 doesn’t show very well is why there are 2 long wooden planks strapped to the top of the van. It isn’t uncommon when driving across to find 1-2 meter wide “fissures” in the ice. The planks are needed to help the car cross.
