Links: Sharing Wisdom of the Internets

We’ve spent several months compiling great web resources for our travels, so rather than hoard them to ourselves, if you are considering this trip, something similar or just want to read where we might have found our hair-brained ideas, check out the following links.

Packing: OneBag is a great resource for traveling with less stuff.
Why we like this site? We used to be brutal packers. A trip to a ski condo? Four bags please. We’ve gotten much better over time (one large suitcase each + carry-on backpack on our respective trips to Europe) but for a month over multiple climates, we need help! Also, Meghna and Dan (dear friends and crazy travelers) has traveled the world with the insights from this site, and has always been cited as “Man that girl is prepared!”

Booking: Russian Experience is the travel company we used to book this trip.
Why we like this site? There are several companies you can use to book a trip on the Transiberian, but this one had the best value of services for the price you paid. There is a lot of choice in what kinds of extras or included excursions you can do. AND their customer service has been lovely so far.

The Government of Canada: The Government of Canada has many useful websites for the traveller going abroad. Travel.gc.ca has lots of helpful information on health, travel advisories, what to do in emergencies , links to all the consulates and embassies, and other cool stuff. My favourite tool is “Register with Us“. “Why?” you ask? You know when a natural disaster strikes, or a war breaks out and our foreign service crew works like stink to find all missing Canadians? Registering with the feds makes this work so much easier. It was pretty easy, even with our many many stops on this trip.
