Geography – long and narrow
So wow – Lake Baikal is insane!!! It holds an estimated 20-30% of the world’s fresh water. It is the same square kilometer surface area as Lake Superior but holds twice as much water.

Random Factoids as I have learned from xkcd:
- Apart from Alvin (the sub that went to visit the Titanic), the Typhoon Class sub is the deepest diving sub on the picture
- Emperor penguins can dive as deep as a Typhoon Class submarine and a little bit less than a blue whale
- The scuba record is deeper than all three of these
- A leather-back turtle can go deeper than all of the above
- NONE of these creatures or technologies can get to the bottom of Lake Baikal!!!
