Day 12: Lake Baikal – the derelict

[categories differences, listvyanka, Russia, photography, travel, trans-siberian]

This day’s photo fruit yielding a bit more than we were expecting. We’re posting this one part of the day which was truly fascinating, and I’ll try to get around to writing what we actually did later. A quick bit of background on the photos. So this is in the village of Listvyanka, which is 70km from Irkust and is on Lake Baikal. It is a resort town (as much as one can be in Siberia) and has changed a bit since Soviet times. We walked to the end of the village (7km long) and found this at the end of it. It is an old factory that was used to make ship parts during Soviet times, but has since fell into disrepair and has been stripped of everything useful. That said, it is beautiful in its own right and was fun to explore for part of the afternoon. Some kids also agreed, as they were playing games around it.

Enjoy!
